Due to the impact of Covid-19, and in accordance with Ofqual’s Extraordinary Regulatory Framework, CILEx has calculated grades for the qualifications set out above for learners who would have taken assessments between 20 March and 31 July 2020.

CILEX Approach

Qualification grades have been decided, in accordance with the relevant grading criteria rules for the qualification, on the basis of:

  • banked results for exams/assessments/assignments already completed;
  • Centre Assessment Grades for exams/assessments/assignments which would have been taken in this period – centres were asked to provide grades informed by evidence of a learner’s performance;
  • provisional assignment results for the Legal Studies and Legal Secretaries qualifications only – the provisional results are for assignments which learners had completed, centres had marked but which had not been subject to CILEx external quality assurance.

Prior to finalising the results, CILEx quality assured the Centre Assessment Grades and carried out an overall check on the qualification results to ensure that the results were not out of line with expectations.

CILEx centres are not allowed to share the centre assessment grades with learners before the results are released.

Release of Results

Results will be released on 13 August 2020.

Appeals

Learners who are unhappy with their results should speak to their centre. The centre can submit an appeal to CILEx on a learner’s behalf, if it believes the wrong data was used in calculating a learner’s grade. The Appeals Policy and Appeals Procedure are available in the resources section below.

An appeal cannot be brought against the professional judgement of the centre tutors/assessors who produced the centre assessment grades. Learners who would like an opportunity to improve their grade can take the relevant assessment in the Autumn period. It is strongly recommended that learners discuss this with their centre.

CILEx Level 3 Diploma in Law and Legal Skills learners – the Exams Timetable for the November 2020 session is provided in the resources section below.

Legal Secretaries and Studies learners – learners can arrange to re-do assignments with their centres. Centres can also arrange with CILEx for learners to take Unit 201 The Legal Environment and Unit 327 Legal Terminology. The next examination session for Unit 223 Proofreading in the Legal Environment, and Unit 323 Proofreading in the Legal Environment is 6 November 2020.

Learners who believe that their centre did not behave with integrity when determining a centre assessment grade, for example, due to bias or discrimination, should raise their concerns with their centre in the first instance.

Subject Access Requests

In the first instance, learners should speak to their centre if they would like to know their Centre Assessment Grades.  However, centres can only release this data after the results have been released on 13 August 2020.

If a learner would like to make a subject access request to CILEx, after 13 August 2020, the CILEx Group Privacy Officer should be contacted [email protected]. A link to the CILEx Privacy Notice is provided in the resources section below.
