What can I do as a locum or consultant?
If you have not obtained further practice rights, the work that
you may carry out on a locum or consultancy basis, is limited to
the activities of the 'employing' firm.
However, worked carried out must be done in the name of the
firm, and not in your own name. If the work you carry out on this
basis encompasses reserved legal activities, you must ensure your
contractual arrangement with the firm means that you fall within
the definition of 'employee' for the purposes of the Act. You
should seek independent legal advice in this regard.
If you are working as a locum, you should always check with the
firm whether you are captured under its professional indemnity
insurance policy.
