Can I witness a document?
Members can witness documents, verifying that the signature on
the document belongs to the person who has signed it. The usual
principles apply that the document must be signed by the signatory
in the presence of the witness, that the witness must be unrelated
and must not have an interest in the matter.
Fellows and those authorised by CILEx Regulation with
practice rights can witness a document as a lawyer and other
members can witness a document as an independent and unrelated
third party.
