Am I required to have Indemnity Insurance?
At present, it is not a regulatory requirement for individual
members to hold indemnity insurance.
Members who work in a solicitors firm or in-house will find that
your company or firm will have indemnity insurance, as required
under the Solicitors Indemnity Rules.
For members in independent practice providing non-reserved legal
activities, it is not compulsory to have indemnity insurance.
However, we strongly recommend that an appropriate policy is in
place. In the absence of such insurance you may be personally
liable if a claim is made against you. It would be considered good
practice for such members to have regard to the CILEx
Professional Indemnity Insurance Rules (which you can access here).
