Will my job title change if I obtain additional practice
rights?
Now that CILEx Regulation accepts applications for practice
rights in conveyancing,
probate,
litigation (together with associated rights of audience), and
immigration, members can apply for authorisation in each
of these areas. If successful you will be independently authorised
for these reserved and regulated legal activities.
If your application is successful, and you are granted
additional rights, this may influence the job title you use.
Conveyancing practice rights
You do not need to be a Fellow to obtain independent
conveyancing rights.
If you obtain conveyancing practice rights, and you are a
Fellow, you can call yourself a Chartered Legal Executive and
CILEx Conveyancing Practitioner.
If you are not a Fellow and obtain these rights, you should
refer to yourself as a CILEx Conveyancing Practitioner.
Probate practice rights
You do not need to be a Fellow to obtain independent probate
rights.
If you obtain probate practice rights, and you are a Fellow, you
can call yourself a Chartered Legal Executive and
CILEx Probate Practitioner.
If you are not a Fellow and obtain these rights, you should
refer to yourself as a CILEx Probate Practitioner.
Rights to conduct litigation and rights
of audience
Only Fellows can apply for the right to conduct litigation, and
associated rights of audience. If your application is successful
and these rights are awarded to you, you can call yourself a
Chartered Legal Executive Litigator and Advocate.
Immigration
Only Fellows can apply for the independent right to provide
immigration advice and services (although there are transitional
arrangements in place for those already on the CILEx Regulation
Immigration Register who are not yet Fellows). If you obtain these
independent practice rights, you can call yourself a Chartered
Legal Executive and CILEx Immigration Practitioner. If you are
subject to the transitional arrangements you must not call yourself
a Chartered Legal Executive and CILEx Immigration Practitioner
until you are a Fellow.
