Adoption and other permanency options

“So, you think you know about: Adoption and other permanency options”

If you work in private client practice advising parents whose children are being taken away from them permanently for adoption or under other court orders or you work in a local authority’s child care team, this course will explain the court orders short of adoption, as well as the procedures and legal principles used for adoption orders themselves.

The course starts with a short (6 minutes) topic recording introducing:

– the key orders used short of adoption
– the key principles of the Adoption and Children Act 2002
– placement orders
– adoption orders.

We then go on to look in more detail at care orders, special guardianship orders, child arrangement orders and the welfare principle and checklist in the Adoption and Children Act 2002. We also review how the placement order procedure leads up to the adoption order itself.

Finally, we will look at a case study covering the controversial issue of trans-racial adoptions.
