The CILEx National Awards will showcase and celebrate the excellent work, and achievements, of CILEx members and stakeholder partners.

These exclusive awards will recognise individuals and teams that are providing exemplary service, advice and support to those seeking access to justice.  Celebrating the innovative recruitment and professional development practices that are widening access to a career in the legal profession to a more diverse audience.

CILEx has been celebrating the achievements of its members, their employers and partners for many years. CILEx annual awards have, until this year, been presented at the annual Graduation and Admissions Ceremony.

CILEx is changing, and the time has come to fully showcase CILEx members’ and stakeholder partners’ contribution to delivering excellence across the legal profession.

We are proud to celebrate what we have always known, that we support and represent a wealth of talented people and organisations. The Globe London
This prestigious event will be held at the stunning Underglobe, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London on Thursday 6 September 2018. With 200 guests from across the legal sector of England and Wales, the event is guaranteed to be a night to remember.

CILEx National Awards

Awards criteria and guidance for nomination

All entries will be submitted via a confidential online entry form bit.ly/CNAC2018

For each entry, you will be asked to provide

  • Your details
  • Award category
  • Name of the individual or team
  • Details of their firm
  • A brief description of the nominee and how they meet the criteria (max 100 words)

Prior to submitting a nomination entry, all applicants should consider carefully the rules and guidance set out below.

Entries should provide up to 150 words against each criterion explaining the reasons, and providing examples of why or how, the nominee/organisation is considered to have met that criterion.

Entries will be given a mark out of 10 against each criterion.

The online submission form permits one category submission at a time.

As the online form is a live document, changes may be lost, and we recommend that drafts are prepared (using the template provided) to enable a simple copy and paste of evidence into the designated box in the online form.

Awards Categories

Criteria

CILEx Apprentice ​of the Year Award

The CILEx Apprentice of the Year is awarded to an individual apprentice who has shown exceptional commitment to their personal and professional development.

The successful individual will be able to demonstrate to the judges that they have a sound knowledge and understanding of their role requirements; gained sufficient experience and confidence to apply that knowledge and demonstrate how they are meeting their client or employer’s business needs.

A. Evidence of the development of technical competence & skill

B. Evidence of the development of business awareness/teamwork

C. Delivering excellent client care

D. Commitment to the programme - engagement in learning process, flexible approach, excellent attendance, proactive

E. Is aspirational, has set clear career goals and shows a commitment to ongoing development



CILEx Award for Advancing the Legal Profession

This award is open to CILEx members who are promoting access to the legal profession and inspiring future generations of legal professionals.

A. Evidence of innovatively engaging with future legal professionals through one or a number of channels

B. Evidences how their professional career journey sets an example that others have aspired to

C. Evidences how they have succeeded in raising aspiration or self-belief in others

D. Evidences activity which reaches out to a wide and diverse audience and provides clear, current and appropriate advice & guidance  
CILEx Legal Expert Award

The recipient of this award is a CILEx member who provides an exceptional standard of technical expertise in their specialist area of practice.

An individual whose professionalism serves to advance the reputation of the legal sector, as they consistently deliver outstanding results to the benefit of their client, their employer/business and the public

A. Demonstrates a commitment to quality & excellence and delivers added value, setting an example to others

B. Demonstrates an exceptional level of technical knowledge in their field

C. Can demonstrate consistently exceeding client needs and aspirations; their professional performance standing out against their peers

D. Demonstrates excellent business acumen/awareness – delivering results aligned to organisation strategy and objectives

CILEx Supporting Lifelong Learning Award

Awarded to an individual actively involved in the training and professional development of CILEx professionals.

The successful individual will be able to demonstrate to the judges how the support they offer to CILEx members assists them in maintaining high levels of professional competency. Their efforts will be shown to actively help members build confidence and ensure they are fit to practice.

A. Demonstrates a commitment to quality & excellence and delivers added value

B. Organises and/or delivers training and development that is linked to business objectives

C. Demonstrates the use of an innovative and dynamic approach to training delivery / learner support

D. Demonstrates an approachable and flexible demeanour, whilst maintaining excellent professional standards

E. Demonstrates a clear awareness of the need to deliver relevant, current and commercially valuable training/support
CILEx Visionary Leadership Award

This award recognises a CILEx member who, as a business leader, has demonstrated the vision and drive to deliver results which sets them, and their business practices, apart from all others.  A leader who encourages innovation, diversity and best practice from all those around them.

A. Has a clear vision for business/department success

B. Strong, inspirational leader & motivator

C. Developing & delivering innovative strategy

D. Demonstrates commitment & enthusiasm in supporting colleagues

E. Has a track record of delivering against organisation objectives, achieving results that evidence business progress & improvement

CILEx Promoting Access to the Profession​ Award

This award recognises an organisation or team whose innovative and diverse recruitment practices actively break down barriers to, and encourage increased interest in, professional legal careers, regardless of an individual’s educational achievement or socio-economic background.  

A. Demonstrates the integration of diversity awareness across the business/department

B. Is able to evidence the use of recruitment initiatives which identify a wide, non-traditional, talent pool and enable applicants to showcase themselves e.g. work experience initiatives

C. Is able to evidence how it actively encourages individuals to champion diversity issues throughout the business

D. Is able to evidence the adoption of fair and transparent recruiting practices, removing artificial barriers to entry

CILEx Diversity & Inclusion​ Award

This award recognises an organisation or team which: embraces the benefit of recruiting, retaining and supporting the development of a diverse workforce; has a workforce which understands the needs of its client base and is best placed to reassure and encourage clients to seek access to justice.

A. Evidences active monitoring of staff recruitment, retention and satisfaction records to ensure alignment to strategic objectives

B. Understands and promotes diversity to improve client care and/or business improvement

C. Evidences regular activity that supports diversity and inclusion e.g.
  • Mentoring/buddy schemes to encourage each other
  • Community outreach/ charity work

CILEx Innovation & People Development Award

This award recognises a business whose approach to learning and development has enabled, and inspired, personal and professional development across the organisation.

The winning organisation will be able to demonstrate how the development has led to either enhanced standards of service delivery, improved business performance or workforce or client satisfaction.

A. Evidences clear and transparent people development policies and processes that are linked to business strategy and objectives

B. Demonstrates innovation in the delivery of training and development

C. Recognises, rewards and supports personal & professional development across the business

D. Demonstrates the business benefits of people development and training initiatives

CILEx Regional Branch​ of the Year Award

This is awarded by CILEx to the best performing regional branch after considering a range of criteria including, but not limited to, levels of CILEx member engagement, innovation in event delivery and support, social media activity & presence, sector networking and charitable works.

This award recognises a CILEx member who has made an outstanding contribution to the work of CILEx.

The recipient of this Award is the CILEx member who has achieved the highest overall mark in the CILEx Level 6 Professional Diploma in Law & Practice.

This award recognises an employee of the Chartered Institute who has received one of our Rising Star awards during the year. Rising Star awards celebrate outstanding work, which goes above and beyond their specific role, which specifically works to support CILEx achieve its vision and strategic goals.

Judging

A panel of legal specialists will review all shortlisted nominations and judges will assess and mark the evidence provided against each award criterion.

For each category judges will choose two finalists. The winner and highly commended awards will be announced at the Ceremony.


Finalists

Finalists will be invited to participate in the recording of a short video biography prior to the CILEx National Awards Ceremony (to be shown at ceremony).

Award winners will be presented with an exclusive CILEx National Awards trophy and all finalists will receive a certificate and customised award logo for use in future promotion.


Rules & Additional Guidance

  • All entries will be treated as confidential with all judges obliged to sign non-disclosure agreements prior to the event
  • The deadline for receipt of nominations for the CILEx National Awards is midnight Thursday 31 May 2018
  • Entries must be submitted online using the designated link, prior to the closing date
  • Late entries cannot be accepted
  • Entries should not exceed the stated word limit
  • Employees of The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives’ (CILEx) Group of companies, or members of their respective Boards, are not eligible to be nominated for any award (except for those designated in the category list as ‘Awarded by CILEx’)
  • Members are eligible to nominate themselves for an individual award. However, the name and address of an independent reference must be provided
  • Any person nominated for a CILEx member award must be registered as a CILEx member,  be in the appropriate CILEx member grade, and have an active membership for the current year
  • For the Apprentice of the Year Award, nominations are open to any CILEx member who is currently on a CILEx apprenticeship programme or has completed one in the 12 months prior to the 31 May 2018.
  • CILEx reserves the right to conduct appropriate due diligence and prior conduct checks in relation to all nominees. Where such checks identify issues, which are in conflict with CILEx values, professional standards or Code of Conduct, CILEx reserves the right to withdraw, at any time, any entry submitted in relation to, or by, that organisation or nominee
  • If it is found that any entrant has knowingly provided false information on their application for entry, CILEx reserves the right to withdraw, at any time, any entry submitted by that organisation or individual
  • Negative publicity does not necessarily mean a nomination will be rejected. However, CILEx must be informed of any negative media - relating to the nominated individual, team or organisation – that has appeared in the 12 months preceding the Nomination deadline.
  • Awards are made at the judges’ discretion and the judges' decisions are binding and final.
  • Finalists will be given prior notification of the judges’ decision
  • Finalists will each receive one complementary ticket (per award) to the CILEx National Awards Ceremony
  • All awards will be announced live at the CILEx National Awards Ceremony, with no publicity beforehand
  • Results will be published in The CILEx Journal, CILEx website, and across social media
  • Press releases and photographs will be issued to the media about the finalists & winners
  • Submission of an entry will be considered acceptance of the rules as set out here
