On successful completion of the Level 7 Chartered Legal Executive Litigator and Advocate EPA employees will be responsible for managing a caseload of legal matters, providing advice to clients to customers and advocating for clients in courtroom settings.

The information outlined on this page relates to the CILEX Level 7 Chartered Legal Executive End Point Assessment (EPA) version 1.0. This apprenticeship is for apprentices working in a contentious area of law.

Timeframes and assessments
Training providers must register apprentices, providing provisional gateway dates, with CILEX a minimum of 6 months before the apprentice reaches the gateway.
The EPA for this apprenticeship has two components:
- Portfolio of Evidence against the relevant CILEX Regulation Standard
- Advocacy Skills assessment.
The Portfolio is incorporated in the CPQ Professional stage, a qualification that is mandated as part of the On-Programme Learning element of this apprenticeship. The CPQ Professional Experience Portfolio (PEP) is the Portfolio of Evidence required for the EPA and must be completed before reaching the Gateway stage. Following submission, the Portfolio undergoes assessment by a CILEX Independent Assessor.
The Advocacy Skills assessment can only be achieved once the apprentice has achieved a Pass grade for the Portfolio component and will address several different areas, including:
- Interviewing (Civil and Family)
- Negotiation (Civil and Family)
- Case Analysis and Theory (Civil, Family and Criminal)
- Skeleton Arguments (Civil and Family)
- Advocacy – preparation and at the hearing (Civil, Family and Criminal)
- Evidence (Civil, Family and Criminal)
- Professional Condict (Civil, Family and Criminal)
It’s expected that the full EPA process will take approximately 6 months. Starting with passing through the Gateway and concluding with the release of the final EPA results.
EPA funding and fees
The financial aspect of this apprenticeship is managed by the employer. They will work in collaboration with the training provider to develop a learning programme designed to meet the specific knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship standard.
