New editor for CILEx Journal

Val Williams04 September 2014

Val Williams has today been announced as the new editor of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives’ (CILEx) monthly membership magazine, the CILEx Journal.

Val, who has been editor at Legal Action Group for 18 years, will begin her role at the publication for CILEx members on 1 October 2014.

Speaking about her new role, Val said: “The CILEx Journal is a ‘one-stop shop’ for members and my expertise and experience will help it develop further to become the practical source of information and guidance it needs to be. The legal sector is continually evolving and the Journal will focus on delivering topical articles with a constructive edge.”

Sharon Bruty, business manager of the CILEx Journal, said: “CILEx is going through exciting change, from opportunities of new practice rights to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, so it is essential to have a reliable, informative and educational resource available for our readers. Val will lead us in delivering a professional publication which meets the needs and expectations of all our members.”

Val began working in the legal sector as a solicitors’ clerk at a law firm in east London. Without a university degree or formal legal qualifications, she was encouraged by her manager, who was a CILEx Fellow, to take CILEx’s professional qualifications at a local college.

In 1995, Val became deputy editor at Legal Action Group and was soon promoted to editor. During her time at the charity, Val and her team have won a number of awards for their publication, including, most recently, the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians’ (BIALL) 2014 Legal Journals Award.
