It was smiles all the way, as some 80 invited guests, including the Lord Mayor of Manchester, the President and Chief Executive of ILEX and the great and good from Manchester’s large legal community packed into Manchester Town Hall last night (24 June), to send the new Greater Manchester Branch of the Institute of Legal Executives ILEX off to a flying start.

The newest branch in the ILEX network aims to enhance the role and standing of Legal Executives in Manchester’s legal community. It has been created in response to many requests from the 1400 plus ILEX members and students in the Greater Manchester area, and has the backing and support of the ILEX President, Lesley Graham who is herself a Manchester lawyer.

The vibrant legal community in Manchester is second only to London in size, and for many years ILEX members have not had a focus for local legal training or social activities.

“Manchester has one of the biggest and most important legal communities in the country,” said the new Branch Chairman, Michael McGhie. “By establishing this Branch, we are providing a focus and a stimulus for the large number of ILEX lawyers who are employed in fee earner work in the Greater Manchester area.

“As well as the social events, which are a vital part of any branch, we aim to increase local recognition of Legal Executives, their knowledge and skills and the important role they play in the legal community in this region.”

Over the coming weeks the new committee: Chairman, Michael McGhie from Pannone LLP; Vice Chair, Victoria Martin from Sheldon Davidson Solicitors; Treasurer, Gareth Lloyd from turner parkinson LLP and Events Secretary Danielle Vipond will be putting together a programme of activities and events, both business and social.

The launch of the new Branch was supported and sponsored by Manchester law firm Pannone LLP and legal recruitment agencies Anakin Seal, Chadwick Nott and Sacco Mann.
