Bournmouth lawyers celebrate pro bono week

Bournemouth Legal Executive lawyers will be taking part in National Pro Bono Week, one of the biggest events in the legal calendar, which starts on 10 November.

The aim of the week is to encourage lawyers who are not yet involved in Pro Bono work to see and experience what it is all about, to ensure those who need Pro Bono help know where to find it and to give voluntary groups the opportunity to voice their needs for assistance.

“Pro Bono is professional work undertaken voluntarily and without payment as a public service,” said Poole based Legal Executive, Nick Hanning who is Chair of the ILEX national Pro Bono Forum, one of the organizing bodies for the National Pro Bono week. “Lawyers have traditionally given something back to the community by offering free legal advice to groups, organisations, charities or individuals in their area who have a need for legal advice.

“This week is all about celebrating and demonstrating the range of pro bono work that can be done. Pro Bono can take many forms, for example time in a Law Centre giving individual help, or maybe working with a group or charity giving advice or legal direction.”

As well as taking part in national events in London, the Bournemouth & Poole Pro Bono group will be holding their own event on the 14 November, a fundraising Quiz Night with buffet supper at the Durley Hall Hotel, in Bournemouth starting at 7:00pm. Before that, there will be a formal meeting of the Bournemouth & Poole Pro Bono group to report on activities and future projects, adopt a new Constitution and appoint Trustees.
