28 November 2017

CILEx Lawyer of the Year LLG AwardSheila Teli FCILEx, from London Borough of Hackney, was awarded the CILEx Lawyer of the Year at the annual Lawyers in Local Government awards on Friday, 24 November 2017 at the Burlington Hotel, Birmingham.

The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), along with Hoopers International Probate Genealogists, proudly co-sponsored the dedicated award which recognises outstanding achievement by a local authority CILEx accredited lawyer in any field of law.

On winning the award, Sheila said “I was up against very intelligent and successful candidates and I never thought I would win this award, however, I was grateful that I was one of the finalists, but when my name was announced as a winner of CILEx Lawyer of the Year award, I was shocked and surprised. I am very pleased that I won, and I truly believe that this award will be a stepping stone in my career.”

The judges of this award commented that the winner “evidenced a range of excellent legal work and results which impacted positively on the local community, together with numerous and varied testimonials in support which were vastly impressive in their praise and commendation”.

Also, highly commended were:
  • Nikki Fonseka – nplaw
  • Wakefield Council – Property Law Team
  • Celia Marks – Manchester City Council
  • David House – Warwickshire County Council
  • Robert Baldwin – City of Wolverhampton Council

The judges in this category found it incredibly difficult to split the 5 remaining nominations who did not win in this category; stating that the breadth of work and commitment was overwhelming from all entrants. Somewhat unusually, the judges have taken the decision to commend all nominations submitted within this category and thank them for their tremendous work.
