Boris Inspires the Future at Apprenticeship Event

Boris Johnson14 February 2014

The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) was visited by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson at an apprenticeships careers fair at City Hall in London on Thursday, 13 February. The event was organised by Inspiring the Future for students to meet institutions and employers who offer an apprenticeship route to qualification after leaving school.

Ben Parry, a Legal Services Apprentice at Kennedys Law LLP, was at the event to talk to the students about his experience so far. Ben said: “Being able to give the students an example of what it’s like to be a legal apprentice at a law firm was great. I’m living, breathing proof that going to university to have a career in law isn’t necessary. I’ve not only got my foot in the door, but I’ve got my leg in the door at a highly respected, international law firm!”

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Inspiring the Future gives young people an invaluable insight into a range of careers and provides businesses with access to an incredible pool of young talent. I have pledged to generate many thousands of apprenticeships in London by 2016, and I hope that many of the young people visiting us here today will be inspired to use an apprenticeship as a springboard to a great career.”

More than 200 students attended the event from schools including the Nautical School, Ark Globe Academy and Archbishop Tenison’s School.

CILEx will be supporting National Apprenticeship Week which runs from 3 – 7 March 2014. To find out more about the CILEx Apprenticeships in Legal Services, join the twitter chat on 4 March from 5pm and follow #NAWlegal.
