What to expect on the day

Once you and your guests have arrived at Central Hall Westminster, please make your way to the reception desk where you will need to sign in and show your e-ticket confirmation. If you have booked for you and your guests to attend the drinks reception, you will also be provided with a drinks token for each valid ticket. This can be redeemed for 1 drink at the drinks reception following your ceremony - keep hold of these tokens as you'll need to present the token in exchange for a glass of Prosecco (a soft drink alternative is available).

Please note that for the 11:00am ceremony, registration begins at 9:00am. For the 4:00pm ceremony registration begins at 2:00pm. We advise that you arrive as early as possible so that you have enough time to get your gown and official photos taken prior to the ceremony.

Once you're signed in, your guests can make their way either into the ceremony hall to find seats for the ceremony, or to the reception area where tea and coffee will be provided. You will need to make your way downstairs to the gowning and photography area in the Aldersgate Suite.

Once you've got your gown on and had your official photos taken, you can head back upstairs to re-join your guests. This is the perfect time to take photos with family and friends, before heading into the ceremony hall. We ask that you and you guests are seated 15 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. As a graduating member, you will be directed to your assigned seat by a member of CILEX staff. Your guests can make their way up to the upper floor of the ceremony hall to find available seats. There is no assigned seating for guests, so you may want to arrive early to get the best seats. Get to know your fellow CILEX members around you and take a breath before the ceremony commences.

The ceremony will open with a warm welcome from CILEX CEO Linda Ford and CILEX President Caroline Jepson, followed by our guest speaker and then you will be invited up onto stage in membership grade and alphabetical order (surname) to receive your ceremonial certificate. You can then return to your seat and cheer on the other graduates until the ceremony ends.

Following the ceremony, you and your guests can exit the hall whereupon you may taken any final photos before handing back your gown and cap. All gowns must be returned by 2pm. If you and your guests have booked the drinks reception, you will be invited to the Lecture Hall/Library rooms where you can redeem your drinks token and celebrate your achievement with friends, family, fellow CILEX members and the CILEX board members.

Getting there

Check out our venue page where you can find out all the travel instructions you and your guests may need for the big day.

Celebrate with your loved ones

We realise that no one completes the CILEX route alone. The countless hours of revision, reading and study would be very lonely without the help and support from colleagues, employers, friends and family. The CILEX Graduation & Admission Ceremony gives you the perfect opportunity to give those who have been your support a big thank you by inviting them to share in your achievement. Make sure to add all your guest tickets when booking your place at your chosen ceremony.

#CILEXGraduation - Share Your Excitement

This day is about celebrating of all the hard work that you have put in over the course of your CILEX journey and we think that is worth shouting about. You can use #CILEXGraduation on social media to join in the conversation with others celebrating their achievements.

Filming and Photography

Please be advised that alongside your official graduation photos, other professional photography and filming will be taking place at the event. If you do not wish to appear in any images featured post-event, please tell us so that we can take the appropriate steps to ensure you and/or your guests are not included.

At the event, we will also have a film crew during the reception and registration times asking CILEX members one question, "What has CILEX done for you?". This is part of our new campaign aimed at using real stories from real CILEX members to inspire the future lawyer and others in the legal profession, so get thinking about a sentence or two that you can share with us on the day. Apologies in advance, we did not have the budget to hire a makeup artist!
