Second judicial appointment for CILEx
25 September 2013
A second Fellow of the Chartered Institute of
Legal Executives (CILEx) has been selected for judicial
appointment. Simon Lindsey (right) has been appointed Deputy
District Judge on the South Eastern Circuit by the Lord
Chancellor.
Simon, an Associate Partner at Greenwoods
Solicitors in Hampshire spoke of his appointment: "I feel delighted
and privileged to have been appointed Deputy District Judge, I also
recognise that as one of the first wave of Chartered Legal
Executives in this role it carries with it a considerable
responsibility. After many years in the law I was at a point where
I wanted to take a new path which still made use of the experience
I accrued in private practice. A judicial role has been very much
the route to achieving this.”
CILEx President, Stephen Gowland said: “This is
great news for Mr Lindsey and we congratulate him on his
appointment. Acting in a judicial capacity is one of the ways in
which our members can make a significant contribution to the legal
profession, legal services and the public interest. CILEx works
closely with the Judicial Appointments Commission to support
Chartered Legal Executives who seek to develop their careers in
this direction. Mr Lindsey’s appointment will be a real inspiration
and impetus to them.”
The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) Chief
Executive, Nigel Reeder commented: "The JAC is delighted that
another CILEx Fellow has been appointed as a judge. Fellows have
been able to apply for judicial roles only since 2008 and so far
fewer than 200 have done so, which illustrates how impressive a
result this is for Mr Lindsey. We welcome applications from good
candidates whatever their legal background and select on
merit."
Simon became a Fellow of CILEx in 1990 and with
more than 25 years’ litigation experience, he is now primarily
engaged in industrial disease, employers' and public liability and
catastrophic injury at Greenwoods.
