2017 CILEx Pro Bono Award Nominations Sponsored by Title Research
The 2017 CILEx Pro Bono Award is now open for nominations. The Closing date is 8th September 2017. Do you, or some one you know do Pro Bono work? if so please submit a nomination.
Every year CILEx launch the quest to find an outstanding member who is committed to, and can demonstrate excellence in legal Pro Bono and voluntary work.
The CILEx Pro Bono Award recognises the dedication and commitment of an outstanding individual who, in addition to their daily work, has contributed to the community through giving their time without charge to help others by providing work of a legal nature.
In your nomination, it may be useful to consider the following:
- Someone who has given generously of their time to undertake difficult, socially or morally important cases, to work for charities, pro bono legal help groups, voluntary organisations or the community.
- Describe the organisation(s) for which the nominee has provided pro bono work during 2016
- Describe the quality of services the nominee has provided to pro bono work during 2016.
- Describe how the pro bono work has benefitted the organisation(s).
- Indicate how long the nominee has been involved in pro bono work.

The winner will receive a commemorative trophy, certificate, the winner's logo and a £500.00 cheque to be given to a charity chosen by the winner.
The award will be presented at the CILEx Graduation and Admission Ceremony on Saturday, 7 October 2017. Reasonable UK travel costs for the winner and their nominator will be paid by CILEx.

2016 CILEx Pro Bono Award Winner
Christine Howard, Chartered Legal Executive, Weil, Gotshal & Manges
The Pro Bono Award recognises the dedication and commitment of an outstanding individual who, in addition to their daily work, has contributed to the community through giving their time without charge to help others by providing work of a legal nature.
The winner Christine Howard, a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer at Weil, Gotshal & Manges is a passionate believer in access to justice and since 2005 has dedicated over 2,100 hours which is testament to her longstanding dedication to pro bono. This is despite having an incredible busy day job in a Dispute Resolution Practice. Christine has co-ordinated the rota for the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau for 10 years and is also a Trustee of the organisation.
Peter King, Partner and Global Co-Chair of the Weil Pro Bono Committee said: “Christine is a true pro bono star, for the last eleven years she has consistently delivered hundreds of hours of free legal advice to deserving charities and individuals with great vigour and passion. She never stops until she gets the result the client deserves. Christine is also an integral member of our Pro Bono Committee and helps maintain and drive the pro bono culture we have in the office and wider firm.”
Christine’s prize money is being donating to the charity of her choice; RCJ Advice Bureau Limited.
