*If more than 3 years’ work experience of a
predominantly legal nature has been acquired or a relevant Level 2
legal qualification is possessed, the starting point will be as an
affiliate member, not a student. The cost of affiliate membership
plus first registration is £156, which should be substituted for
the £90 figure.

At the end of Level 6 or the Graduate
Fast-Track Diploma, Graduate Membership of CILEx is achieved.
To become a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer a total of five years’
qualifying employment is required (qualifying employment is often
acquired while studying at the same time). During this period
annual membership fees at the prevailing rate must be paid.
Starting Point- LPC/ BPTC Graduate

required, due to exemptions.

Registration and one year’s Membership fee.

Under current rules, LPC/BPTC graduates would
need five years’ qualifying employment. For reference, the
current annual Graduate Membership fee is £195, so members would
start paying that from 2013 as the £635* covers the first year’s
membership.
General notes:
- 1. These figures are for guidance only. They are based on
course, assessment, membership and exemption fees effective from
July 2012 to March 2013, and include VAT where applicable. Fees may
change in future years.
- 2. Additional expenses such as £10 administration fees for
booking on to revision or skills sessions are not covered, nor is
travel to external examination centres and any examination re-sit
fees or additional membership years.
- In some cases students may wish to purchase an additional text
for Level 6 law and practice units.
- *Subject to confirmation, based on £400 exemption fee not
changing; plus £195 Graduate Member fee and £40 one off first
registration fee.
