The Graduate Fast-track Diploma
Duration: Varies, nine months to one
Delivery method: Distance learning
and centre-based learning
Location: Accredited centres
What is the Graduate Fast-track Diploma?
The Graduate Fast-track Diploma (GFTD) is designed for
those that have recently gained a qualifying law degree or GDL.
It's a shorter qualification route to fulfilling your career
ambitions by becoming a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer.
If you have graduated with a qualifying law degree or GDL in the
last seven years you can take the GFTD to complete the academic
part of your legal qualification. You just need to study two units
from the range of Level 6 Practice subjects (one of which must
relate to the subjects you studied within your law degree), and the
Level 6 Client Care Skills unit to complete your academic
You will then be eligible to become a Graduate Member of CILEx
and use the designatory letters GCILEx. After three years’
experience, at least one of which must be accrued in the Graduate
Member grade (see qualifying
employment), you will be eligible to become a qualified lawyer
and Fellow of CILEx and use the designatory letters FCILEx.
- Qualification is inexpensive
and you don’t have the LPC debt burden
- Qualifying employment is
easier to obtain compared with an elusive training contract
- You don’t have to study the
whole GFTD in one go- you can spread your studies out
- You can always do the LPC
later (within seven years of your qualifying law degree/GDL)
Who is it for?
To commence the GFTD route, you must:
- have achieved, within the last seven years, a qualifying law
degree/GDL as recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority
What does the GFTD involve?
The GFTD is made up of three units: two CILEx Level 6
practice units + the Level 6 Client Care unit.
One of the practice units must
link to a law subject that you have studied as part of your
qualifying law degree/GDL. You may choose any one of the CILEx
practice units as your second, irrespective of whether you studied
the linked law unit. A list of the practice units and the law units
to which they relate is given below as a guide.
